Our comprehensive approach combines innovative strategies with evidence-based research to tackle the challenges of employment, gender disparities, and youth engagement in Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond. We collaborate closely with governments, NGOs, international organizations, and the private sector to develop and implement programs that not only create job opportunities but also ensure equitable access for women and youth. Through capacity building, policy advocacy, and strategic interventions, we aim to cultivate an inclusive workforce that embraces diversity and offers equal opportunities for all, regardless of gender or age. Our projects across countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda exemplify our commitment to transforming the employment landscape, promoting gender equality, and unlocking the potential of young people.
Sample Projects
Ministry of Labour and Belgium Development Agency (Enabel) commissioned a needs assessment in Six Districts of Rwanda including the Lake Kivu region. The general objective of the skill needs assessment was to provide an assessment of the critical skills situation for disadvantaged and vulnerable young men and women seeking to become entrepreneurs in Rwanda. The needs assessment aimed to conduct the economic trends of the six districts of operation; to determine the Skills profile of youth and women in districts of operation; identify the priority business skills needs for informal business in districts of intervention; and identify the priority business skills needs for women and youth seeking to be entrepreneurs in the districts of intervention; and propose capacity-building mechanisms through which the identified skills needs can be addressed in empower youth to have decent jobs in the informal sector in Rwanda. OWN and Associates produced a report, designed and recommended a program for youth’s employment in the informal sector, and produced data set for each district. Based on the findings and recommendations of the assessment, Enabel/Ministry of Labour investment resources to promote youth (young men and women) creation/participation in entrepreneurship in the six districts in Rwanda. This included: capacity building and mentorship programme, access to financing, and promotion and sustainability of youth businesses.
Technical Support to the Operationalization of the National Council for Nomadic Education in Kenya (NACONEK), 2014-2015. This initiative aimed at enhancing access to education for nomadic communities, with a special focus on girls, demonstrating our dedication to breaking down barriers to gender equality.
Final Evaluation of the UN Women Tanzania Country Office Strategic Note, 2017-2022. Our evaluation provided insights into how gender-responsive policies and programs can lead to more inclusive employment opportunities, underscoring the importance of integrating gender perspectives into workforce development.
